I have been teaching at Manatee since it opened in 2003. I taught first grade for 8 years and 2019- 20 will be my 9th year teaching fifth grade. I graduated from Siena College in Albany, New York in 1983. I have lived in Mohawk, N.Y., Syracuse, N.Y.; Rochester, N.Y.; Augusta, GA; and Rockledge, FL. My family and I have been in Florida since 1999. I have two sons, Eric is 28, lives in Port Orange and works at the Hilton on the beach in Daytona. He graduated from Daytona State College in 2016. Patrick is 24 and graduated from Alabama State University in Montgomery, AL., where he also played on the baseball team. He works at Eastern Florida State University as assistant baseball coach. My husband works for 7-Eleven, Inc as an area manager. We have a dog named Chop.
My hobbies are golf, softball, and any outdoor activities. I love to read and spend time with my family and friends.
My favorite thing about teaching fifth grade is our annual camping trip to Camp LaNoChe. I have been going to camp for 11 years and always have a great time. It is exciting to see how much the 5th graders enjoy it and to see former Manatee students come back as high school counselors.
This will be our third full year as a one-to-one classroom, which means that each student will be assigned a laptop to use in the classroom for the entire year. I really love all the fun things we can do using the laptops We will utilize Google Classroom to assign work and create presentations and projects. This is a perfect way to help our 5th graders become 21st century learners!
I know that this is going to be another terrific year at Manatee and look forward to getting to know all the new 5th grade families!
